Test Dogs for the Combo Series

Tim Thompson and "Diva" came to the line at 11:57 am. Diva was unable to do the land blind, so the next Test Dog was called to the mat.

At 12:03 pm, "Ace" came to the line with Peter Ketola. He got the land blind, went and picked up the flyer and then went out for the water blind. He had to be handled to the water blind. After that, the judges moved the mat farther right and ran Ace on it again.

The temperature has risen to 72 degrees and with it, the wind. It is out of the SSE at 8 mph and is swirling, but is across the water towards the line.

Combo Series – Double with a Land Blind and a Water Blind

This is a combo series. It is a double with two blinds (and two mats!) The handler has been given the instructions: The right long dead hen duck will be thrown first to the left at 290 yards. Then the short guns to the left at 150 yards shoot a rooster pheasant to the left, then they retire when the dog leaves for land blind. The handler then calls the dog off this exciting bird to run a land blind with a hen mallard at 250 yards. The land blind is off the back of the first bird thrown down at the water’s edge. Then it is the handler’s choice to pick up either of the marks that just fell. Then he moves to the mat at the far right to pick up the water blind, a water blind at 365 yards where the dog will find a drake mallard. And then he picks up the remaining bird.

The line faces southeast looking over the same area that we used in the Sixth Series.

TEST DOG – Tim Thompson and "Diva"

The Test Dog came to the line at 6:30 sharp to kick off Day Six with a continuation of the Sixth Series. It is a beautiful day today out in the field on this huge lake. Visibilty is still a little hazy with low light, but Diva knew where her birds were.

L Retired – Between oak and the rootball of the fallen tree. Around back side of the tree, then back left to the bird.

R Retired – A quick handle to put her in the water and keep her swimming versus beaching early. Handled to the bird.

Day Two – Sixth Series, continued

We are here just down the property from the Land Quad. The order of the birds is left, right middle. The first bird down is a rooster pheasant at 205 yards, thrown to the left angle back over a fallen tree and lands behind them. These guns stand by there root ball until the flyer is shot, then they retire after the dog passes them on his way to the flyer. The second bird is a hen pheasant on the point thrown to the left at 334 yards. The dogs must run down the slope of the hill and and cross the pond to get this bird. These gunners retire when the dog is released to get it's first bird. The third bird is a hen mallard flyer shot to the left at 305 yards. The gunners are in a draw shooting to their left and the bird lands at the top of the slope. The dogs run down the slope and up to the top of the hill to get this bird. There is an honor to the right of the running dog.

FINALLY FRIDAY – Another Beautiful Day!

We are finishing up the Sixth Series today and looking forward to a high of 68 degrees – we'll see if that happens, but hoping for it.
