Fourth Series – Poison Bird Blind

The handler is at the top of the hill looking southeast across a big basin, up the opposite side with decoys. The dog runs down along the slope. Three gunners off to the right of the pond are shooting a poison bird towards it: they are standout guns. The blind is on the far right side of the lake. The line is down this side of the basin, across the bottom, and up the far side. They continue down a long slope to the pond, across the right end to the right far corner and the bird. The poison bird is called for as the dog gets to the line. This blind sits approximately 385 yards from the line.

Both test dogs ran this afternoon and both proved the difficulty of this test, slipping multiple whistles.

The test began at 11:47 am.

This test is taking an average of 7 minutes per dog.

Middle Retired: Up left hill to gunner's blind. Turned right and out to the bird.

27. FC Rock River Benjamin, “Ben”, LM, Bill Eckett

Flyer: Scooped it up!

Right Retired: Took right side of pond with angle right towards the bird. Stayed in front of the blind, turned left and quickly got his bird.

Middle Retired: Stayed dry cutting close to the left corner of the pond. Straight up the hill, stayed inside of gunner's blind and directly to the bid.

26. NFC Trumarc’s Dot Come, “Dottie”, LF, Danny Farmer

Flyer: Straight to the bird.

Right Retired: Into the pond at the right end. Out of the water straight back to the trees and the bird.

Middle Retired: Up the left side of the hill, curved right towards the trees. Hunted behind the gunner's blind and then out to the fall area for the bird.

Test Dog to the Line …

We had one Test Dog, Peter Ketola and "Ace" come to the line this morning at 6:32 am. He smacked the flyer and on the middle retired, he went up left, curled into the trees and out to the area where he hunted until he found the bird. On the Right Retired, he entered the middle of the pond, out to the far side of the trees and straight to the bird.

As Peter came to the line, the gallery sang "Happy Birthday" to him … 73 years young!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PETE !!!

Third Series Water Triple, continued

The Third Series is a water triple with two retired. The line is sitting on a hill overlooking a small pond over the south east about 100 yards from the line. The 1st bird thrown is the middle bird at 345 yards. The gunners are about 107 yards deep of the left hand end of the pond, they are standing by hay bales in front of a small cluster of trees. They throw a rooster pheasant to the right. The 2nd gun station is located about 100 yards behind the right end of the pond at 345 yards. The gunners stand by three bales of hay and throws a duck angle back to the left. The third bird down is a drake flyer, the gunners are a 107 yards to the left of the mat shooting out or southeast into the test. When the dog leaves for the flyer, the middle and right gun retire.

SPECTACULAR SUNRISE !!

"Two For TUESDAY" – Conditions report

What that actually means, folks, is that you will need two hats, two scarves and two pairs of gloves this morning! We are hoping to stay warm by drinking lots of coffee AND visiting Rowdy's food truck often through the course of the day. We hope you will, too.

By the way, for those of you needing to see the Callbacks on your smart phone view, here is the actual link to the Callbacks.

http://2014nrccallbacks.theretrievernews.com/ViewCallbacks.aspx?Event=2014NRC

OR you can go to the actual Retriever News Blog web page and press the green Callbacks button on the upper left. We are updating handles as they happen as much as possible and, of course, the drops at the end of each series. The Third Series is expected to run through a good portion of the morning with 33 dogs left to run – GOOD LUCK!
