Next the Left Middle ("Pop") at 280 yards throws a rooster pheasant to the left landing near a large clump of bushes. The third bird is a hen pheasant shot to the right at 300 yards. The right flyer guns were originally supposed to be stand-out guns, but the Judges decided after the two Test Dogs ran that they would retire behind a blind. The fourth bird, a mallard hen duck, is on the far left of the test, thrown to the right at 175 yards. The dog must jump over a large fallen tree trunk to get their bird. After returning from this retrieve, the dogs must honor on the left of the running dog.

Fourth Series – Water Blind

Fourth Series – Poison Bird Blind

The handler is at the top of the hill looking southeast across a big basin, up the opposite side with decoys. The dog runs down along the slope. Three gunners off to the right of the pond are shooting a poison bird towards it: they are standout guns. The blind is on the far right side of the lake. The line is down this side of the basin, across the bottom, and up the far side. They continue down a long slope to the pond, across the right end to the right far corner and the bird. The poison bird is called for as the dog gets to the line. This blind sits approximately 385 yards from the line. This test is taking an average of 7 minutes per dog.

Test Dog "Ace" with handler Peter Ketola kicked off Day Four and the continuation of Test Four. The dog lined from the line into the eater, across the pond and then was unresponsive to several whistles before he got the bird.

Test Four – Water Blind on the second day of the test.

Mid-Week Wednesday

Good morning, we are off out to the grounds to finish the Fourth Series. We have 18 dogs to run and at an average of seven minutes per dog … well, you do the math … we expect to finish in a couple of hours and then move to the next test site which is about ten miles down the road, so there will be a delay in communication for a bit, mid-morning or so.

We were told the weather is going to improve after this morning – we hope so! Our supply of hand warmers is almost gone. Hard to type with gloves on, don't you know! We are expecting a high in the mid-fifties. (Now that is hard to BELIEVE!)

The Worker's Party is tonight and we are looking forward to that, for sure!
